This test was done as a follow-up to one of James Goldsmith’s test regarding the value of linking out to Wikipedia and its effect on rankings. Naturally, that test, like all tests, raised some more questions. With the increasing implementation of schema on websites, we wanted to know if adding mentions schema with the Wikipedia link would result in an increase in rank. This test is one of several where we placed the link into various schema types.

Then, here's again the mentions schema and as you see it went up one. Or was that two? Yes, two. Negligible. That's the normal daily bouncing of rankings, right? Then, here's the reverse, did not do much either.
So, again, I think we beat that to a pulp that's just having schema, all by itself, just doing it and not doing it in the thought-out way you're not doing/ giving yourself any benefit whatsoever. Which could also look at why a lot of plug-in implementation of schema doesn't give you the result you're looking for.
At least, what the sales pages are offering - with increased rankings, blah, blah, blah, etc. If they're only doing the basic schema and everyone else is only doing the basic schema how are you going to show that you're ahead of the curve? Certainly, something to look at.
