This is a follow up to the test that I did last month using Dori’s patented anchor text percentage tool. This is run by Ryan Hough. When you see the dossier, go through it. He very meticulously monitored his results. What he ended up with was that the 100% anchor texts won. There was a lot of movement and it went all kinds of back and forth. These links were from the network in the SIA dashboard. These things are indexing and are doing very well.
The big take away here is that I think it is a complete crapshoot. There is no set-in-stone-this-should-be-what-you-are-doing. As a contrast, when we do things with word count for example, that test has been run a bunch of times and we see consistent results, on page factors – with h1, the metatitle, URL, the body content – you can run that test a hundred times and they are all going to show up on the top almost every time.
When I look at these results, we really do not have a lot of confidence in what would be a correct anchor text percentage. What should you do? How should you approach this? What you should do is look at the anchor text percentage that is currently being awarded for your target term. You can use a lot of tools to figure that out. Majestic is a quick one.
Dori: Actually, everybody in the SIA has some link credits to use in the link ratio tool that pulls from Majestic. So if you do not have an account from Majestic, you’ll be able to put in your domains and pull up the information from it. So everybody has that and you just have to go into the member’s area and into the tools.
This is how you become a professional. Look at what Google is rewarding for your keyword. Follow that and then, if you want to use the network that in SIA, that is a great opportunity to mimic exactly what is going on there and then you could do that within SIA, with the other links that you are doing. You could then get the profile that Google is rewarding.
That is the biggest thing. In a test environment, we cannot for certain what would be the correct percentage whether it is 50-50 naked URLs to anchor texts, whether it is 100% anchor text or 1% anchor text.
I really think that anybody that tells you for certain what you should be doing, you should run from that person. They do not know what they are talking about. What we do know is that it is uncertain.
