One more for Hunter and this is a carrd.co. I didn't even know about this one. Hunter found that out. I think he's learning more about SEO stuff as well. He's a developer by nature but he's learning more about this and he found carrd.co and he made this card page. That's the card and then there's the backlinks right there. Pretty simple.
It's kind of the same way I was About Me is now. He tested that out and the results were it boosted that up to the #2 position from the middle test, is where we start again. It's a 0 + 0 = 0 game but it actually by itself gave a little bit of boost.
A nice follow-on here is I'll probably take Hunter's test page and since we've already reported it I'll build backlink to this and see if we can filter some backlinks and I can push that up into the #1 position.
Here's the other page here. This leads me on to another point that I wanted to – or dori was talking about backlinks and we saw this with Google Sheets too. There's a link to the domain page and that one went up and this one here went down.
So, it's Google looking at it because there's two links to the same domain, it's giving you the power all to the one and the other one's saying, "We're not counting you or maybe even punishing you." I want to test that out as we build that a little bit more. I'll probably make another carrd.co with just one each link and we can boost it up.
I'll probably hit this one at the same time but this is leaning into my theory that if you have more than one link to your same domain or your page you're not probably not doing as much good as you think you are and Google's not rewarding you in the way that you think you are. So, those PRs with three backlinks where I think I'm saving myself a little much money might not be. So, we're going to test that out. I will work with Maj from magicpr.net and we're going to test that out as well.
DORI: That would be interesting because my experience is that if you link to the same site, if you're using different keywords you'll still get benefit for that anchor text.
CLINT: Right, and/or if it has completely different pages. So, if you link to the same page with different keywords – and Rand Fishkin did a study on that where he had the same page and it was multiple keywords it didn't give him any boosts. Google only read the first one.
In this case, it's a play off of that, it's the same domain, different pages, different anchor text, in theory, it should have resulted in both of these going up. I've seen this consistently across the different tests where this layout was used and only one of them actually got a result and ended up with this look. So, I'm thinking Google's even gotten away from different URLs and saying one page from one domain gets credit. Everything else gets ignored.
That may have been a change that we should probably know about especially if you're following along with those tools that are building Google Sheets with hundreds of URLs in there and they're all do multiple keywords and therefore building something valuable. Maybe you're not. I think that'd be good to know.
