While Dori was delivering a Basic On-Page Course, on the last day of it, she talked about links a bit and told the group about a couple of tests we had done in the SIA that had proven there is some type of time frame that a link (once crawled) stays in Google’s memory or cache for a period of time, after the link has been deleted. We don’t know the exact period of time frame yet - but we think it can be up to six months for non-competitive niches. We termed this phenomena “link echo”.
To take advantage of this, we believe we can switch out the anchor text of a link and rank for multiple keywords with that single link. This gives us the ability to conserve outgoing links from powerful sites and makes our PBNs and/or other links under our control, more powerful. We are calling this "Link Spinning". This is the first test on that concept.

Next one is also really exciting for me. 357: Link spinning increases ranking potential for different keywords with a single link. Sort of actually does link spinning increase rankings? That's the hypothesis that it will.
The background is while I was doing that online basic course I did talk about links a little bit of the last day and I talked about the fact that we had tested in the SIA what would happen when you delete a link and we figured out that there was some sort of timeframe that once the link was crawled even though it was deleted Google still counted it as a link. You were still giving that link juice.
Now, we never really figured out what that timeframe is yet but we think it's around six months for non-competitive niches and we term this phenomenon link echo. So, I figured to take advantage of this. We need to switch out our links with the links that we have control of using PBNs and things like that. During that class we were talking about content spinning and some stuff and it has got in my head, oh my god, link spinning.
So, this is the concept of link spinning. It's changing out your anchor text on that same link to get multiple keywords ranked for that with that single link. We did this test in two different ways. Actually, we did two tests. Both used lorem ipsum as content with fake keywords in the title and h1 tags and all that.
So, it was a regular test set of keywords and then we had 13 pages, something like that. Test one though the links were put in the content. So, they were contextual links. Now, in test two, we placed the links in the blogroll. So, we know from going forward that blogroll links are not as powerful as contextual links but we wanted to see what would happen. We use two different PBN sites to get the links from.
Two different sites were linking to this so one site was linking to test one, one site was linking to test two which is different site, different keywords. Each day the keywords of the anchor text were changed out and then the pages that we're doing the links were sent to a link indexers so Google would know, oh, I’m going to go crawl that site again, and in this test, with both tests, we used two different anchors. So, two different keywords and again this was manually done.
Our first test was the contextual. This is the first keyword and it's shot right up to the top and has stayed there ever since. The same page of that, a different keyword shot straight to the top, stayed there ever since. So, BAM! We just got two number one rankings with a single link at the same time. We should have like fireworks going off here. Seriously, this is huge.
Let's go down to test two, a blogroll. They started down here in the middle. I just want to show this where they started because they just moved up a couple. This one moved up here to number three, same with this one. Same page, different keywords. It's a different search results but they're both at number three.
I thought that was really interesting. Now, they are from a blogroll. Right there, it says it's not going to give me all that much strength and I have to be honest as well the site that got the blogroll links, the test 2 the site wasn't as powerful as this monster with the TrustFlow of 42 but with that saying I think it's safe to say that link spinning is working eventhough it didn't go straight to the top. I wish it had but again blogroll not a good site but I’m really happy about the first test and even the second test. I think this is huge and I’m really excited about this.
So, we're going to start putting more keywords into the mix and let it go. We'll add a third and a fourth keyword to this. So, you'll look forward to having updates on this test or more tests coming out with link spinning. It's weird doing this by myself because I wish there was somebody like high five because that's what I feel like doing with the link spinning test.
