Marc Moeller did this test on NoFollow comment links. We played with NoFollow before and we know that it passed juice. There has been a lot of recent talk that it is gone. That is over and we do not think so. Something that Marc wanted to look at was – there are still a lot of good legitimate websites that let you put links in the comments and he has two of them that he did. The idea is they are good websites and they are going to be NoFollow links. Will they still pass juice? Is it worth your time? We have a good feeling that comments will pass juice. Is it worth it doing one of these NoFollow comment links?
We have confirmed that yes, they totally pass juice – the NoFollow comment links and he is getting one from ThemeForrest. It is probably worth your time. These are strong sites and they will definitely pass juice. It is still a technique that works and will continue to work, I think, for quite some time.
At the end of the day, whenever you hear that nonsense in SEO about NoFollow links do not work, it does, it obviously decreases in value in time but, it still definitely works.
Dori: I would even go so far as to say that Google expects a certain amount of NoFollow links and deindexed links from sites linking to you.
For sure, that is natural. Another thing that people misses is the purpose of NoFollow isn’t to halt Google. The purpose of NoFollow is to protect the Webmaster of that website who doesn’t know where that link is going and won’t vouch for that destination. They are saying that people might be putting links that I could not police, so I am putting no follow on this because I am not say that yeah, that is a solid link. But that does not stop any search engine. Why would it? Search engines can still go to it.
