We have tested a few variations of sending traffic through links with positive results. In this variation, we’re testing sending bot traffic using RankWyz.

This test was done by Ryan Hough and our good friend Simon White. Simon did tool time for a little bit in Tuesday Chats and if you attended SEORockstars, you saw him do a pretty cool presentation on the current state of tools that are out there and the different categories of tools.
Simon is into tools – a lot of them. He is one of the people in SIA that pretty much used every tool so if you have a question about tools, Simon is the one to go to for that.
For this, we are using bot traffic with RankWyz and the concept is, we are trying to find a way to speed up the time it takes for a link to cause an effect. We know that a link passes juice, it is good, what if we send traffic to it, is that going to boost the speed of when it takes effect?
This is beefy test and Ryan and Simon did an amazing job at this one. At the end, the link with direct traffic got the most love. It moved to the number two spot. The one with the link just stayed there and the one with CTR didn’t get anything. Again, as mentioned with Crowsearch, it is really frustrating because the things that seem like they should work is really hard to nail down when they would and when they wouldn’t. What I like about this test set up is that this has a couple of moving parts because people think that an issue with traffic is that you need other things. This test has other things, it has links coming in to these particular pages plus traffic, different types of traffic. In the end here, not a fun conclusion, not a recipe, not a way to get it manipulated.
As Ryan said with this test, they are hoping that they would find a way to get Google to recognize it faster or give it more value. It does seem there is merit from the direct traffic but then, the sneaky traffic, search traffic, didn’t have any effect here.
Both of them are from bots, from Rankwyz so it doesn’t make any sense that the direct traffic bot would be given the green light from Google and the other traffic going through search wouldn’t or maybe that is the point, the search traffic with ctr can be seen more easily as a bot. At the end of the day, we just can’t get ahold of it.
