Test 212: What is The Best Web 2.0 Property?

August 2016, we ran this test pitting web 2.0s against each other to see which ones are the best Web 2.0s to use.

We run this again to see if there are changes and which ones are worth using.

What we were doing here is we were grabbing 16 of the top web 2.0s that are out there. These are based off of their DA and I listed the DA.

A few taken from courses and stuff where people say if you’re going to build Web 2.0 properties, these are the ones that you should do. These are the ones I went with.

I built these. I do them for two reasons, one – to grab my brand name across the web so when I come in and I’ve got a new client, one of the first things I am going to do is I’m going to grab their brand name with as many properties as possible and the other thing that I do is I use these to build out stacks.

They will go into stacks that I build and the idea is to find the ones that you really want to go after.

A third option for these things is for reputation management.

I avoid putting any content on the page itself cause some allow it, some don’t and there are a lot of variations.

What we are basing this off of is the strength of the url, getting the keyword in the url and that is going to give us is a pretty decent look at how strong these things are.

Without further ado, here is the ranking as it went.

My thought process for just running this for two weeks is we need these things to work quickly and if they are not working quickly, they are probably not worth your time unless you’ve got a huge budget. If you’ve got a huge budget, then do them all.

There is no harm in that, but most of us are probably tight on money and time, these are what I would focus on and what I would do.

The top 5:

Reddit

Tumblr

Diigo

WordPress

Sites.Google.Com

Those are your must builts. The next ones:

Site123

Wikidot

Blogger

Medium

Issuu

I haven’t heard of Site123 before, it is a new one on the list so that was fun. The surprising no-shows were:

Academia

Kinja

Ghost

Ghost was a bummer because in August we found that one and it was our secret gem and it really didn’t perform well.

I ran this test a couple of times, two times, and these results were about the same.

Ghost was a no-show on both of them which was a bummer.

It is possible, especially with Academia, Kinja, and Ghost that they just didn’t allow the site to show. They saw the site as spam so they shut it down.

That is a possibility but in any other hand, if you are doing a lot of these, it’s a good chance you are spamming so avoid those.

The other ones are a sure bet especially if you’re constrained by time and budget.

I threw all of these into an indexer so that they would all kind of have an equal opportunity to index.

I wasn’t entirely sure how quickly Google will crawl them separately so I did throw them all into an indexer.

One other thing on these Web 2.0 ones, WordPress, Medium, and Reddit, Reddit if you have tried to get that, it’s hard.

They don’t just let you do it, you have to nurture it, you can’t put a lot of backlinks to it and that is a tricky one.

The thing that was interesting was these three were instant multiple results and I got a screenshot here of that and if you are looking at reputation management, you are building these things out in the hopes of knocking something down, these are the three that I might go with simply because they give you the most chance at some extra spots.
