Bill Hartzer shared a video by Majestic SEO explaining how the Google Page Rank formula works. He also provided a practical example. We recreate this set and see if the anticipated results can be achieved via a test environment.

Bill Hartzner shared a video from Magestic and it explains how they calculate Page Rank and how it passes through the different pages. Part of the concept which was actually very interesting was that link counts are not terribly reliable because links are in different places on the page. This is really worth looking at and extremely interesting.
If we recreate this set up where we are just linking across these places and even if the links are not the strongest links you have seen, the E one should always win. That is the one who gets the most page rank in any of these set up and that is what Ryan did. He created the pages replicating A to E from Majestic’s set up and their anticipated rank according to what they should be getting in link juice.
Basically, it didn’t come out to anything that Majestic has anticipated that it might. The rankings were all over the board.
There are some possible problems – perhaps it was a time issue, things could go a little bit longer. Perhaps some of the links were not properly counted. The E didn’t get the full benefit of the entire link web that was going on. There are possible other factors. This was a huge test and there were a lot of variables going on. It was possible that it wasn’t set up correctly and it is also possible that this is not how page rank works.
This was a really cool test to emulate and even break down into smaller parts. If you are looking into get past the normal type of on page test that might be done that is easier stuff, you might want to go for a little bit more advanced, breaking this kind of test down is fantastic. Cause if we could nail down at least some form of how page rank is being passed, juice is passed from page to page, that is something that could be done and could be replicated pretty quickly, it could benefit all of us.
