This one comes from a watching one of Bill’s Blogcasts. August 2 Special Guest Jason Hennessey mentioned that he used Wistia instead of YouTube. This is for the superior analytics that you get from Wistia. But from a ranking point of view, should you be using Wistia or Google’s own YouTube? YouTube is known to slow down your site - it is best to not load your videos until clicked. The speed factor alone should convince you. Will this prove otherwise?

This comes from Jo Priest. This idea came from one of Bill’s Chats on Thursdays. Jason Henessy who was a guest mentioned that he used Wistia instead of YouTube and the reason he does that is for the analytics but that got Jo thinking, what about rank? Can you get any kind of boost by using this third party one or can you get a boost by using YouTube as an embed?
What was funny was that initially, the Wistia jumped right to number one. It looked like it was a cool find and then what ended up happening was it dropped to the bottom, moved up and down, really just went into flux, same as the second test as well. Both tests, the pages were just bouncing up and down. What this tells me is that there is no factor here. Whether it be YouTube or Wistia, it doesn’t matter. What else it might be. We’ve looked at having a video on a page and it really didn’t do anything anyway so this kind of comparison is going to produce anything here. Use whichever you like to use. If you are going to get a video on the page, I don’t think you need to worry about the platform of the embed. I would be worried about more on the content and if it is fulfilling what the users are looking for and if you can get the metrics out of it that you are hoping to get. But don’t sweat whatever particular platform you will be using for videos at least in terms of rank.
